This year’s PSIA Music Memory list is a rich journey through musical history,
featuring beloved classics and vibrant discoveries. Students will thrill to
the drama of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, the sparkle of Mozart’s
Exsultate, jubilate, and the driving energy of Copland’s Hoe-Down
from Rodeo. Timeless works like Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag and Grieg’s
Holberg Suite bring rhythm and elegance, while the mysterious sunrise of
Strauss’s Also sprach Zarathustra and the lively Russian Sailor’s
Dance from Glière’s The Red Poppy spark the imagination.
Upper-grade students also explore the sweeping power of Wagner’s
The Flying Dutchman and the haunting beauty of Borodin’s
Polovtsian Dances. From sacred choral masterpieces to bold
orchestral fanfares, this year’s selections invite students into a world of
sound, story, and expression.
Be sure to check back here for the PSIA version of the Music Memory Passport. We made some
changes from the UIL list, so be sure to get the PSIA version for competition. Publication: late August-early September
